Flamenco was first a cante (song) before it evolved into the famous guitar genre. Traditionally, the purpose of flamenco guitar is to accompany cante (song) and/or baile (dance). Now, flamenco guitar - also referred to as toque - has a distinct music form of its own and has influenced the art of flamenco and other various genres of music throughout the world. There has been hints of it in jazz, hip-hop, and other contemporary styles of music.
